In honor of Black History Month 2021, the PD and DEHR Committees are pleased to offer a film study and conversation with educator and documentarian Deborah Dobbins, based on the documentary "We Are The Roots: Black settlers and their experiences of discrimination on the Canadian prairies". Participants will have an opportunity to preview the one-hour documentary in advance of a presentation and conversation with Ms. Dobbins. She will provide historical information, photos, and a personal reflection as a third-generation descendant of African Americans who settled in the prairie provinces in the early 20th century. A question-and-answer period will continue the discussion with the hope to ignite a flame to make changes within the education system so all who ‘enter there’ will see themselves in a positive light, purposefully embedded within the curriculum they encounter.
